It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our MDYC Board Chair and friend, Bernd “Bernie” Ronnisch.

Bernie’s relationship with Metro Detroit Youth Clubs was more than a board assignment — it was a mission he lived every day. As Board Chair, he brought vision, steady leadership, and a builder’s mindset to every conversation, helping us expand into new communities and imagine bigger futures for MDYC Club members. His name is synonymous with service and positive change across our Club community.

He also walked his talk — quite literally — as a prolific fundraiser and passionate champion for the Walk For The Future, one of our largest annual events. His commitment inspired others to give, act, and believe in what was possible.

A builder by trade and by nature, Bernie helped us construct opportunities, relationships, and a stronger community. He believed deeply that every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and dedicated his time, talents, and heart to making that belief a reality.

Beyond his many professional and civic accomplishments, Bernie will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, and deep love for his family and community. He always led with compassion and purpose.

Our hearts go out to his wife, Catherine, their children Bridgette, Julia, and Kate, his cherished grandchildren, and all who loved him. His impact on MDYC and the lives of countless young people will live on.
